ALLISON 501KB5 TURBINE CONTROL SYSTEM UPGRADE

Northwest Electrical Services LLC provided a turnkey control system upgrade for two Allison 6.0 MW 501-KB5 gas turbines generators for W&T Offshore. The new Allen-Bradley CompactLogix based system replaces the obsolete Woodward control system. The equipment is on site and expected to be placed into service April 2017. Major components of the upgrade included the Design Engineering, Assembly, Factory Testing, Installation, Commissioning of the following:

• New Fuel Control System making use of Northwest Electrical Services proprietary PLC based governor control. The new governor control makes use of high speed analog I/O, included CTIT algorithms and allows for droop, ISOCH and loadsharing operation
• Unit Sequencing Control utilizing Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC and Input / Output modules to replace existing Woodward PLC for Turbine, Gearbox and Generator
• New Bentley Nevada vibration monitoring system
• New fuel control valve
• Voltage control and synchronization utilizing Basler DECS250, including raise lower switches, lights, and integration of existing lockout switches, breaker control switches and Auto/Manual Switch, and pilot lights
• New Control Cabinet door designed with plug in ready cables for easy connection to existing cabling
• Door mounted HMI for each unit, industrial touch screen NEMA4X panel mount PC complete with Wonderware Intouch visualization software and communication drivers for Allen-Bradley PLC communications and MODBUS TCP for Basler DECS, and other MODBUS enabled devices if desired for future integration
• Control Room HMI for each unit duplicating HMI controls at the local engine panel
• Real time Historian data logger using Wonderware Historian
• Industrial network Switches and cabling with redundant resilient Ethernet communications
• Integration with existing Fire System
• Integration with existing platform process PLC for starting and stopping of auxiliary equipment
