MUNICIPAL UTILITY CONTROL BOARD SIMULATOR

Northwest Electrical Services LLC has been employed to convert a 1930’s era transmission and distribution control board into a functional training and demonstration platform for a municipal utility.

The simulator includes the connection of the control board switches, lights and re-closers into an Allen-Bradley PLC, repurposed from the client’s decommissioned stock. The control board simulates the historical methods used to operate the municipal grid as a training aid and demonstration tool for staff and students to show the evolution of utility control over decades.

The project includes engineering for demolition of existing wiring, installation of new wiring and interposing relays, PLC software and includes a modern HMI deployed to demonstrate the methods used to link legacy systems to modern technology.

This project is partially in service and will be completed by the end of April 2017.
